HTTP2Mail dient zum Senden und Empfangen von E-Mails per HTTP Protokoll, wenn kein direkter Zugriff auf einen POP3- oder SMTP-Server möglich ist.
Die Software kann damit in Firmennetzwerken mit/ohne Proxy-Server oder in den Ferien oder auf Geschäftsreisen in Hotels mit Internetzugriff per HTTP aber geschlossenen Port 25 für SMTP (Versand von E-Mails) und/oder Port 110 für POP3 (Empfang von E-Mails) verwendet werden.
Zur Nutzung von HTTP2Mail muss eine eigene Webpräsenz oder Webserver, mit der Möglichkeit PHP-Scripte (PHP4 oder neuer) auszuführen, vorhanden sein. Für das Versenden und Empfangen von E-Mails kann ein normales POP3/SMTP-fähiges E-Mail-Programm z.B. Microsoft Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Outlook Express, Windows Mail oder Thunderbird verwendet werden.
